Sometimes I expect you to love me
exactly how I want to be loved

but I don’t want to figure out
how I want to be loved
because sometimes I’m dumb.
and that’s okay, but
sometimes I’m sad, too

and maybe that’s just as okay
but I should probably try not
to be both at the same time

maybe I want you to be free
to love me how you want to
because that’s how I love

but I don’t want to figure out
how you want to be loved
I want you to figure it out first,
and then,
I want you to tell me.

but sometimes that’s dumb
because sometimes
people expect to be loved exactly
how they want to be loved

Sometimes I don’t feel loved
even though I am
I don’t recognize that you love me

the way you want to
not the way I want you to

and I keep expecting you to know
and change
without even telling you
how I feel
without even figuring out first
how I want to be loved.

because that’s how I want to be loved

  1. I feel like alot of people should hear this poem because everyone thinks they know how they want to be loved, but when they are loved another way they feel like that is the way they should be loved. I don’t know if that makes sense but all in all it’s a beautiful poem
